So after admiring some darling pictures of friends taking naps with their babies I decided to try it myself. I got in my comfortable bed and looked at my beautiful, tired baby in his little onsie just laying across the way. I envisioned some cute picture of the two of us snuggling.
Thomas had other ideas! At first he thought it was a game. He smiled and cooed and reached for my face and hair with is sticky baby fingers. I don't know what baby fingers are made of, but if Scotch could get a patten on that stuff they would really have something. Then, when he realized it was naptime – he started crying – his typical, pre-nap, wind-down technique. I thought I could make it through this by cuddling – to no avail! His crying was pared with quick thrusts with his little feet into my abdomen. Then came the gas – I was dutch-ovened by my four-month old. As many of you know, four-month old babes don’t have a lot of control over their arms, so the initial dutch-oven motion was followed a series of arm flails causing him to waft the stinking intruder over my face several times.
As I was dealing with this current offense (checking for poo) his nimble little fingers almost gouged my eye out! At this point I began my defensive sleep maneuvers – mostly covering my face with a burp cloth. Finally, he fell asleep, at which point I could have started cuddling with him but I was so tired I just rolled over and enjoyed the remaining twenty minutes of naptime.
I guess I can’t bemoan the fact that we just aren’t sleeping buddies too much, because after all, I do get a consistent 10-12 hours of sleep out of him each night. We will just have to enjoy our cuddle time when we are both awake. And alas...there is no cute picture of us napping together

I love this post. And dutch oven? You've been married to Seth too long already.
Surely you got enough of that lovin' bed sharing action in Mexico--with Audelia's kids, and the crazy gringas at Hno. Leal's on the weekends! Good thing we never pulled a dutch oven on you then. : ) I don't think you would have been so forgiving as to little T!
So funny Caroline- you will love all of these memories when Tommy is older.
Great story....
I prefer snuggle time with a newborn and then alone time thereafter.
Guess it is time for you to have another one : )
