The Edge of the Waterfall

I have been abroad before...lots of times.  For those of you like me - the more anxious types - you may know that feeling, like you are on a raft listening to the edge of a waterfall in front of you. A waterfall maybe an exaggeration - maybe more like a rapid.  Anyway, that is the feeling I always have before I go abroad.  We don't actually leave for Ghana for another couple of months but as I sit on my soft bed, listen to the familiar noises of the Orchard Court Gang destroying someone's property or picking on a three year old, and think of the boxes to pack and yellow fever vaccinations to get.  I start to hear that water ahead of me and feel that pit in my stomach. I love going abroad - the clarity it brings...helping me remember that I don't need my computer/cell phone to feel sane.  But I really dislike the long flight, time change and that complete feeling of displacement that accompanies the first week or so of getting your bearings.  So maybe in order to sleep tonight, I just had to admit that I am getting nervous, excited, but definitely nervous too.

What's all this about Ghana? And with little baby Thomas, too? [At least it's not the ranchos.] Our family's upcoming trip to Jerusalem in December has me feeling just like that waterfall you described. And the raft feels mighty small sometimes!

I can relate to all of this. It's a whole new ball game with a baby too. Everything will work out great though- it will be such a cool experience. How long are you going to be there? Will you be back for the Sherry Christmas?

I'm very jealous! I can't wait to hear about NEXT weekend! I can't believe our girls weekend is already here!

Love your analogy! I've been feeling the same waterfall feeling, though I'm certainly not going to Ghana. What a neat family experience it will be--one that you will likely not be able to do as easily in the future. Glad to know someone else gets nervous about stuff.
