Trip to the village
The first Ghanian I ever met was little Abena Aidoo. She was a gorgeous two year old. She was actually born in the states, and at the time all I knew was that she was African (Obibini). Her parents Gifty and Paul spent a lot of time educating us on Ghana this summer. We love this family. Well, it is no surprise that Gifty would have an equally wonderful brother named Clement. Who spent one of his last days here in Ghana (He is headed to Central Washington University to study and won’t return for at least three years) to take me to his grandmother’s village. He is going to be a wonderful father some day…he was so great with Thomas. It was so cool to see the farms of coco yam, plantain, cassava, palm nut and coco beans. I had my first fresh coconut…so delicious. Thomas loved it as well. The people in the village could not get enough of him I don’t think they had ever seen an obruni baby before. I met Gifty’s grandmother – nana. She is such a beautiful woman! And a mother to the core. She is the caretaker of everyone in the village it seems. There were many tears as she left to visit family in Accra for four days. She showed me how they make palm nut oil in the village…this is a source of income for the family. Thank you to the Aidoos and Clement for making this Ghanian experience so memorable.

That looks like it was a fun trip!
I just wanted to thank you for your photos. I've been reading Maya Angelou's "All God's Children Need Traveling Shoes" about her time in Ghana in the 1960's, and your pictures are a really nice accompaniment.
I can't believe how grown up Thomas looks! We miss you guys!
