Today I taught a lesson to the 7 year olds (filling in for one of the 4 teachers that are missing and need to be replaced) and conducted sharing time. It all started off with me being unable to lead the “Hello, Hello ” song (a song we sing to welcome visitors). It got worse as I realized, while singing in front of 30 children, that I don’t remember the words to the “Hello, Hello” song.
When I got to my classroom, I felt relieved thinking of the many activities I had prepared for the kids, including playing with some home made playdough (is that even how you spell it?). The playdough became “the worst idea I have ever had” and the kids continued to remind me of that fact for the next 45 minutes. It was mushy and wet like a very sticky bread dough. I prayed nobody would be in the hall as I shuffled my class to the restroom to wash the dough from our hands. The rest of the lesson went pretty well until another member of the presidency had to come in and remind me that it was time for Sharing Time, could I please come conduct now. I spent most of sharing time wrestling a wiry 5 year old away from the exit and back to his seat (he’s a runner!). So, other than my commendable skill as a bouncer, I have a lot to learn in primary.
In other news, I did have one success this weekend. Check out Tom's cut.

Wow, he looks so different with the haircut! Like a true Arizonian. Or something.
And thanks for your cute Christmas card!
Ahh . . . Primary. It's a fun time :)
I've always wondered why they put the young moms in Nursery and Primary. We do little kids 24 hours a day 7 days a week and it sure would be nice to have a change of pace for at least 3 hours once a week.
Then again, after having spent the last year and a half IN primary I can honestly say that I love it.
And Tommy's hair - SO CUTE!
I'm dying right now. Why are you so funny? You and I definitely both bring that to the family. (that's an inside joke people)
And all of a sudden Tommy is 12?? What the.
Yep, that sounds about right. Although every week (for the 2 1/2 years were some version of what you described) I do have to say I loved it too.
That's some serious initiation to have you do music, teach a class as well as sharing time all in one week.
Good job on the haircut!
Excuse me but your face is NOT huge and I'm missing the wrinkles you mentioned.
I'm feeling your primary pain. Guess you'll be learning patience...as if you are not already getting to be a queen of that quality.
The primary kids are going to love you!
That Hello Song helped me land my favorite job so far. Well done on the hair cut. I gave Wyatt his first cut and it's all crooked in the back, but I did the best I could considering my main objective was to get the pooh out of his hair.
Great job with the cut! That has got to be intimidating with a two year old squirming. I know what you are talking about with primary. I signed up on the sub list, and well ... have been VERY well used since then. My favorite time was last time with a six year old smashing his two front teeth against an old led painted primary bench and the only way he would stop doing it over and over was when he found a tack and started showing me that it was in fact not dangerous as he shoved it under his rear end and wiggled around to "assure me" that he wouldn't get hurt. Nice.
Good job on the haircut! I'm assuming he sat very still because it looks so even.
I like the lines around my eyes too. They're not wrinkles, silly. They're "smile lines." :) You look great - as always.
You had me laughing so hard Caroline! Ah, the joys of primary - I've been in primary for 6 years (minus a 5 month hiatus in the Relief Soceity - which actually made me realize that maybe primary isn't so bad - little kid problems seem a lot easier to solve than big people problems!)
Hang in there - it never gets less crazy (sorry) but it will get easier as you master lots of little tricks - soon you'll be a pro at Sharing Time, all the songs, and substituting at the last minute ;) The primary presidency is lucky to have someone as great as you!
Thomas looks so big! I can't believe it.
