Ray of Sunshine

In the last month or so I have had several people refer to Seth as a “super positive, happy person”, “the nicest person I have met in Zambia” or my favorite: “a ray of sunshine”. He is all of those things in my book. I am missing my little ray of sunshine today in particular. He has been in South Africa since Wednesday.

Yesterday I really could have used some Seth sunshine, as I had to take Lily (our second puppy) back to the Lusaka Animal Welfare Society. I woke up to the screaming of chickens, Lily had jumped a 2 meter fence to get into the coop. I literally through her out the gate and tied her up to figure out what to do. She chewed through the rope and jumped in again. Luckily all the chickens are alive. However, I think there is only about three tail feathers among the four of them. By 7:30 AM I had Fry, Lily, Thomas and Cali in the parking lot of LAWS. I cried like a baby giving her back…I couldn’t even explain myself to the attendant. The good news is that Fry has been so well behaved and a much better dog. (He really was the brains of the team.) So, it is sad but I think all is for the best.

Some puppy shenanigans we will not miss:

Some Thomasisms:

On a lighter note: when I told Thomas we had to take Lily back he said, “But mom, I like Lily better. Can’t we just grind the chickens bones to make bread?”

Also, the other day he called me a Stupid, Insignificant, Whatever. Is that from a movie? Seriously, I think I know all the words of the five movies he watches and that combination is not in any of them. I had such a mixed reaction: shock that he was angry enough to use three insults in a row, anger that he called me “stupid”, wonder at where he learned the word insignificant, pride that he used it correctly. Later that day he threw a dirt clod the size of a baseball at my hip...the pride vanished.

A Carolineism:

Seriously people...I love you all, but you could have waited to tell me I look just like my Dad until I posted some decent pictures him. At least some where he is wearing contacts...yikes!

That's so sad about Lily. Sounds like you did the best thing for everyone though. I can only imagine those chickens of yours are sleeping much easier now.

Seth is a ray of sunshine. That's really sweet, all of those comments about him.

Can't wait to chat when you get stateside.
