Seeing that we have just over a month left and I am struggling with posting anything requiring pictures, I have composed two lists – things I will and things I will not miss in Africa.
- The sun
- Banana trees
- The beaches
- Obibinis (africans)
- Coconuts, bananas, papaya, pineapple and mango
- Groundnuts and groundnut paste
- The bread
- FanMilk
- Smiles
- Red dirt and green vegetation
- Roasting plantains every 100 meters
- Doris’ beans, rice and stew
- How good the AC feels here
- People carrying things on their head
- Hearing prayer calls from the mosques in the mornings
- Walking less than 5 minutes to purchase most anything I need
- Clotheslines
- Fanta, coke and sprite in bottles
- Naked obibini kids everywhere
- Palms
- The fabrics
- Tropical rain
- Okorye trees
Things I will not miss
- Open sewage
- Tro-tros (while convenient, they are in some ways terrifying)
- Overly fishy food
- Being honked at by taxi drivers
- “OBRUNI” hearing that over 50 times a day
- Hawkers
- People trying to help me parent
- People continue to speak to me/ ask questions in Twi when it is painfully apparent I have no idea what they are saying.
- Walking 10 minutes (all walking is with Thomas strapped to me) to use the internet just to find it not working.
- The price of cheese
- Carrying a hideous umbrella everywhere to protect my transparently white child who is now allergic to his sunscreen from the African son.

I'll be happy when you are back and we can hang out. I'll be in Corvallis the 13th- Jan 4th.
Can't wait till you're back!
This looks like a list we might have made in Mexico (of course, without OBRUNI, and with gringa or guerrita, etc.)!
Caroline, I miss you so terribly. I can't wait for you guys to get back.
You are so much to be admired for your efforts to describe your time in Ghana and you'll be so happy to have this record later. It's wonderful that you are embracing every opportunity, even when it isn't always pleasant, to get to know the land and the people. You're miles ahead of folks who say,"We 'did' this country in a matter of a week or so.
Love you two...whoops three,
G'ma
P.S. Couldn't get on so am trying to use the address Seth had on my computer
